SYPALA 2009 - Day 1

Yesterday, AfricanLiberty.org and IMANI's flagship program, Students and Young Professionals African Liberty Academy (SYPALA) kicked of on the Campus of Ashesi University in Accra, Ghana.

Dr. Patrick Awuah, President of Ashesi University opened the program with a deeply thought provoking welcome address to the SYPALA 2009 participants, some of whom came from as far as Nigeria.

Kwaku Sakyi-Addo , host of the Kwaku One-on-One show on TV3 also graced the occasion.

It was then the turn of Prof. Ato Quayson, Director of Diasporan and Trans-National Centre at the University of Toronto, Canada to give an insightful lecture on the history of the formation of the city of Accra and it's neighbourhoods.

Finally, Mr. Kofi Bentil, a lecturer at the Ashesi University took his turn and initiated a very stimulating debate on the topic "The Nanny State - Do you really want that?"
